Contemporary Music

Question

 Why don’t people stop listening to contemporary music? Who is the majority listening to contemporary music?

Contemporary music is always playing; in stores and on the radio. Even if you try to avoid contemporary music, you are going to end up hearing it one way or another. People will not stop listening to contemporary music because they like it, it’s something new. It relates to them and the issues in modern day society. That brings me to the second part of this question, who is the majority listening to contemporary music. The answer is teenagers and young adults. They are the consumers. Just because music is more sexualized doesn't mean people of this day and age are going to stop listening to it. The elders of the technique may dislike it. They can view it as too simple and distasteful. However, the young people of the technique may like it and find it very creative. There is always something new in a generation that the elders reject yet they once took the risk and did something out of the norm that their elders disliked. I guess this question is just to explain that even though elders and Scruton may dislike contemporary music, doesn't mean people are going to agree and stop listening to it. Contemporary music may dominate the radio stations but there are still stations were you can listen to other genres of music, you can play CDs, your iPod, and you always have the internet.
